Kasey Kahne will not be returning to the NASCAR Cup circuit this week on Dover's international circuit as he remains marginalized while continuing to work with the doctors to explain why he was suffering from serious dehydration problems during the races.

Kahne, who announced in August that he would retire from the Cup full time after this season, missed the last four races. His full-time career in the Cup could already be over; There are only seven races, including Dover, for the 2018 season.

He tested Tuesday at Charlotte Motor Speedway under a NASCAR policy that allows an injured driver to test with present doctors, to determine whether it is OK to run. The doctors determined that Kahne could not return to Dover.

"Leavine Family Racing continues to work with Kahne and his medical team," said the team in a statement.

Kahne was 27th in the standings after her last race on September 2nd at Darlington Raceway. During the event, he had difficulty seeing and was nauseated during the last 100 laps due to dehydration. He was sweating so heavily that he could not keep enough water in his body and felt too nauseous to drink more water.

Regan Smith has replaced Kahne in the last four events and is expected to continue as a substitute driver.

Kahne, 38, has played in the last 15 seasons of the NASCAR Cup series. He has 18 wins and 93 top 5 in 529 career starts.
