Kate Middleton, 36, and Prince William, 36, travelled to Canada in 2016 for one of their first royal tours with their two children Prince George, five and Princess Charlotte, three.

Canada is one of the most-visited locations by the Royal Family, with the Queen visiting 22 times during her reign.

Kate and William visited the country for eight days, exploring British Columbia and Yukon.

The royal couple broke royal protocol along the way during a particular day visit.

The pair visited a local food and wine festival in British Columbia together, where they were met by authentic Canadian cuisine.

One of those was a geoduck, a large clam with a long neck that can often put people off from eating it due to its phallic shape.

Kate and William, however tried it for themselves while speaking to the chef Ned Bell.

This is often frowned upon by the Royal Family due to the danger it poses for them.

Shellfish is rarely put on the menu for the royal due to the high risk of food poisoning.

Despite this advisory, many members of the Royal Family have admitted to eating shellfish.

William and Kate have previously exclaimed their love of sushi, while Meghan Markle once said she loved seafood on her lifestyle blog.

Royal chef Darren McGrady even posted an image of a royal three-course menu which featured shellfish with a lobster starter.

However, royals may still choose to avoid it when abroad due to the tightly packed schedule that would not allow any time for illness.

There are many strict food rules when it comes to dining, especially when abroad.

Garlic is advised against due to the pungent smell it poses for Royal Family members.

This can be a major problem when meeting guests and hosts, resulting in smelly breath.

When dining at home, carbohydrates such as pasta, rice and potatoes are rarely on the menu due to the Queen’s dislike of them.

However they also try and eat seasonally and locally as much as possible.

Harry and Meghan, during their trip to New Zealand, asked for the local authentic cuisine along with the other guests.
