Katherine MacGregor, who played talkative little mother Harriet Oleson on TV "The Little House on the Prairie", has died, a representative said Wednesday. She was 93 years old.

MacGregor died Tuesday in Los Angeles in the retiree community of the Television and Television Fund, said Tony Sears, his lawyer.

While her nasty daughter on the screen, Nellie Oleson, was the character that viewers loved to hate in the series broadcast on NBC from 1974 to 1983, her cruel and greedy mother, Harriet Oleson, was just as terrible; she never missed an opportunity for social climbing or small backbiting.

They contrasted with the warm and affectionate members of the Ingalls family, who were at the center of the series and often targeted by the Olés.

William Shatner on Twitter on Wednesday called MacGregor "deliciously naughty" in the series.

Born in California, MacGregor started as a dancer in New York before moving to the theater, studying with legendary teacher Sanford Meisner.

Her on-screen career consisted of small film roles and television spots before landing on "Little House on the Prairie", the beloved television series based on a series of books loved by author Laura Ingalls Wilder, who tells his childhood.

MacGregor would remain the entire series with actors Michael Landon, the star of the series who died in 1991, and Melissa Gilbert, who played the young Laura Ingalls.

"She was frank and funny," Melissa Gilbert told MacGregor Instagram on Wednesday. "A truly talented actress, because she was able to play an awful character but with so much heart, Harriet Oleson was the woman our fans loved to hate, a perfect antagonist."

Alison Arngrim, who plays the role of Nellie Oleson, said that Macgregor "has an extremely long and busy life and that she is at peace … she will be missed by us all."
