Keith Ellison's former girlfriend, Karen Monahan, has published a medical document on social media that shows that she told a doctor in 2017 that she had an abusive relationship with Ellison.

Monahan, who said Ellison had abused her in 2016, shared patient progress notes from November 2017 on Twitter several times this week.

Ellison, who is running for the Minnesota Attorney General, denied the allegation, which emerged in August. Monahan's son told the story for the first time on social media and later confirmed what her son said. During a fight, Ellison shot her legs and feet while she was lying on a bed, Monahan said.

"This is one of my Dr.'s visits indicating the abuse that took place. It surprises me the steps people must take to validate their humanity. #metoo, "Monahan announced on Twitter on Tuesday.

The document says that she told the doctor that she had been in a very stressful environment for years and that she had been the victim of psychological and physical abuse from a partner whose she had been separated ever since.

"She did not suffer from any physical injury that required physical examination in the past. She identifies the individual with whom she was involved as a congressman [sic] Ellison, and she worries about retribution if she identifies him publicly, "according to Park Nicollet patient notes.

The Star Tribune contacted Monahan and Ellison's campaign on Wednesday for a comment, but neither answered. In an email, a spokesperson for HealthPartners said she was unable to confirm the truth of the document as this would violate patient confidentiality rules.

In a previous interview, Ellison called the allegation personal, painful and false. The impact of Monahan's story on the voters' decision in the November elections is still unclear. Ellison, a Democrat, stands against Republican Doug Wardlow.

A poll of the Minnesota Star Tribune / MPR News conducted last week included a question on whether people believe that Ellison has committed the domestic violence alleged by Monahan. The majority of participants, 57%, said they were not sure, while 21% believed and 22% did not.

Monahan has already stated that there was a video of the 2016 incident, which she told CBS News to be the only example of physical abuse during their relationship. His son also said he saw the video. Monahan refused to share it publicly and said that it was traumatic.

This week she wrote on Twitter: "I do not have to show a video that shows me in a vulnerable position. Did they even think what I could or not have worn? "

Ellison said that such a video can not exist.
