Country music superstar Keith Urban played an intimate concert for an Ohio fan who was unable to attend his performance on Thursday night. He visited Marissa English, who is in palliative care, after his nurses pushed him onto social networks to meet him during his stay in Buckeye, reports WTOL, a CBS affiliate.
In front of a sold-out concert Thursday, Urban said he'd had the chance to meet the one he's now considering as his "biggest" fan, a beautiful girl named Marissa.
Urban has fans around the world, but his mother says you'd be hard-pressed to find someone as dedicated as Marissa.
"She has memories of some of the other shows we attended," said Marlise Matthews, Marissa's mother, at WTOL. "She has a t-shirt that we always put on a pillow next to her. It's actually cute because she's going to take the pillow and hug her and l & rsquo; Kissing (and) … she will point it out and say "Mr. Hottie."
Marissa is 25 – a miracle in itself. Doctors were not optimistic when she was born with a myriad of health problems, including an inoperable cyst on the brain, severe scoliosis and cerebral palsy, according to WTOL.
"She stayed in the hospital for five and a half months and when we brought her home, the doctors said: 'Go home and enjoy for maybe a year It may be the longest you have, "said Marlise.
Nurses at Saint Vincent Hospital in Mercy Health said WTOL Marissa's health was deteriorating rapidly. A social media campaign to get Keith Urban to meet Marissa himself has grown in recent weeks.
"We knew how important it was for Marissa to be at this concert tonight and as she had not been able to, we were hoping to find a way to get Keith to connect with her." said nurse Jan Cassity.
Thursday, a video of the interior of the hospital room shows Urban kneeling next to her and singing for her. He took pictures hugging her – and leaving her a moment that she will never forget.
"She is so fascinated by Keith that she likes to watch him on TV and listen to his music," said Marissa's home nurse, Jackie Codding. "I think that would mean the world for her."
