Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah sing Doo-Wop on 'Fallon' – Rolling Stone

Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah and Jimmy Fallon have teamed up with Roots and an iPad app to cut out an original version of the single doo-wop "Earth Angel", originally recorded by the Penguins in 1954.

After figuring out how to properly use the app – "You're such a father right now," said Clarkson – Fallon sang the first vocal riff, and his iPad was reported to him. (The app did not have a pitch correction, which might have been useful at times). Roots drummer Questlove beat a slight beat, then Queen Latifah and Clarkson each added a line of harmony.

After marveling at the application's ability to capture, stack, and replay each of their voices, Fallon then added a portion of bass vocals. Queen Latifah was instructed to add a series of elevated interjections on the scale, then those of Clarkson. In three minutes, the trio had recreated the nucleus of "Earth Angel".

Clarkson also sits with Fallon to discuss his return to The voice – her singer won last season – and the launch of her new talk show. "We're leading at 11:30 am?" Joked Fallon. "How dare you!"

The Clarkson program will actually take place during the day just before The Ellen DeGeneres show. "It's going to be a little different," said Clarkson. "We sing every day on the series, make this fan request. On the pilot, I asked people to sing with me and do these little sketches. It's very musical too. It would be weird if it was not. But if you do not like music, you probably should not watch it.

Clarkson suggested that she was well suited to the task of directing a show. "I like talking, it's like my favorite hobby," she joked.

She finds, however, that some of the accommodation is difficult. "It's hard for me to shut up," added Clarkson. "You know, you have to listen to the people who come on your show."
