TOKYO (Reuters) – A former Nissan Motor (7201.TA leader arrested with ex-president Carlos Ghosn defended Mr Ghosn's compensation, claiming that she had been discussed with other officials and paid appropriately, announced Saturday the Japanese public broadcaster NHK.
In his first comments since his arrest on Monday, Greg Kelly was also quoted by the NHK, saying he had been working for the sake of Nissan instead of just following Ghosn's instructions.
Japanese prosecutors said Ghosn and Kelly conspired to underestimate Ghosn's pay for about half of the 10 billion yen ($ 88 million) he had earned at Nissan in five years. from 2010. The company also cited other multiple offenses.
"The remuneration of the former president was discussed with the officials of the department concerned and carried out appropriately. I did not just follow the orders of the former president, I was working for the good of society, "Kelly said, according to the report.
Nissan's board voted unanimously on Thursday to remove Ghosn and Kelly from office. The two were arrested after a Nissan investigation revealed evidence of serious wrongdoing, including under-reporting of wages and personal use of the company's property.
