WASHINGTON DC. – US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Wednesday that Kentucky's community health centers would receive nearly $ 5.6 million from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The funding will be used to support the Five-point opioid strategy at the national level.
The funding was approved by Congress early this year and McConnell played a key role in securing $ 4.6 billion to continue fighting this urgent crisis. This is the highest level of funding ever devoted to the fight against the opioid crisis.

Today's announcement builds on ongoing Congressional efforts and will help provide more relief to millions of Americans who continue to fight addiction, including thousands of people in Kentucky. On Monday, the US Senate passed a landmark opioid law, The 2018 Opioid Crisis Response Act, which contains provisions of two bills sponsored by Senator McConnell.
The first is the Act on the Comprehensive Recovery of Substance Use Through Effective Employment and Reintegration (CAREER), which expands funding for grants and targets for treatment, transitional housing, and job training and placement services to help people in recovery recover from their sobriety. The second is Moms and Infants Protection Act, which will refine the federal government's efforts to combat the effects of opioids on pregnant women and their unborn children.
