Kevin Garnett has never been one to chew his words.
The legend of the Timberwolves and the Boston Celtics of Minnesota was known for his fiery personality, his competitiveness, his rude mouth and his occasional confrontation with a teammate who did not give everything.
Following Jimmy Butler's recent commercial demand, his practice explosion and an ESPN interview, Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic asked Garnett to give his perspective on the current situation with his former team.
The Big Ticket never disappoints.
"I'm a T-Wolf for life, man," Garnett told The Athletic. "I am Sota for life. I have always wanted to be better not only for the city and the franchise, but (Andrew Wiggins), (Karl-Anthony Towns), these are my guys. I root for these guys. Gorgui Dieng. These are my guys. I just hope that they will be able to get through this difficult time and that everyone will be able to find themselves on the same plot and understand it. It's a crappy storm up there. "
Butler demanded an exchange before training camp and made public the battle after talks between Minnesota and the Miami Heat broke out because head coach and president Tom Thibodeau was asking too much in exchange for Butler.
Garnett does not know if Butler has the cache to force a deal like other stars do.
"I think both sides are a little crazy," said Garnett. "I think Jimmy thinks her value is a little more than she is. He is a very good player. I do not see him at the level (Kevin Durant) and LeBron (James). But if they are A-plus, he is definitely A, A-less.
"I do not know if he had the power to go out and force a trade like this. He may be disruptive, but I do not know if he really had the influence to do it. I do not know if Jimmy has enough juice to be that. "
Butler is without a doubt one of the 20 best players in the NBA. But with only a year of work on his current contract, it is unlikely that 'Wolves can get the loot they apparently seek in exchange for the featured swingman. Of course, there is always a chance that the Houston Rockets will give in at the request of Minnesota to level the playing field with the Golden State Warriors.
