PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Juan Soto jumped into offensive territory in the first match of a double-header and ended eight hours of baseball with a deciding circuit in the second match.
The two pieces of the talented teenager scored a sensational sweep for the Nationals.
Soto hit a home run in the 10th inning, his second game, to lead the Washington Nationals to a 7-6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies and a 1-2 on Tuesday night.
"I've never seen a 19-year-old swing and I'm that patient at the plate," said Nationals manager Dave Martinez. "He's 19, but he's playing like he's been in the league for a long time."
The Nationals rallied for three innings in the ninth round against Seranthony Dominguez to tie the game at 6-all. Soto, who shot a two-run run in the fourth inning, was able to catch Yacksel Rios (3-2) with a win in 10th place.
Greg Holland dropped the first batters in 10th place before passing the next two. The Netherlands forced Cesar Hernandez to leave the match for his third stop. Wander Suero (3-0) won.
In the first game, Spencer Kieboom hit his first home race in a major league after losing a tooth earlier in the day.
