Klay Thompson 'not sure' if the Lakers are NBA title contenders

[ad_1]

Klay Thompson knows a thing or two about the Lakers. He spent his high school years living in Southern California and idolized Kobe Bryant.

And, oh yeah, his dad won two NBA championships (1987 and 1988) with the Lakers and is the team's radio analyst.

So Klay, what kind of potential does the Lakers possess this season?

"Definitely expected to make the playoffs just because I think their young guys will take a huge leap – you usually do it from your second and third year," he told reporters after practice Tuesday. "Absolute playoff contention.

"Championship contention – I'm not sure." "It's a lot of work."

Klay is …

… a smart man.

As currently constructed, the Lakers have no chance to win the title, and it would be an incredible achievement if they reach the Western Conference finals.

Let the rivalry begin!

When the Warriors and the Lakers take the floor in Las Vegas on Wednesday night, Lonzo Ball will be in uniform.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 draft will be making his preseason debut. He missed Los Angeles' first four preseason games as he continues his recovery from offseason knee surgery to repair a torn left meniscus.

How much will he play?

From ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk:

Ball could play between 10 to 30 minutes when the Lakers and Warriors meet in Las Vegas, according to coach Luke Walton. If all goes well, Ball expects to play again in the Lakers' final preseason, also against Golden State, in San Jose on Friday.

So he could play anywhere from a little to a lot. Got it.

Over 52 games, Ball averaged 10.2 points, 7.2 assists, 6.9 rebounds and 1.7 steals. But he shot just 36 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from deep.

LeBron James is clearly expecting big things from the 20-year old season (he turns 21 on Oct. 27):

No pressure, Lonzo.

Kevin Durant just can not let the storylines die, even if he's poking fun at himself.

When the four-timing scoring field left the Thunder for the Warriors in 2016, the critics screamed at that included "snake" and "cupcake."

On Tuesday, the Warriors forwarded a self-deprecating approach to a video posted on Instagram of a sneak slittering across a golf course.

"My bad, lemma get out your way," Durant wrote on Barstool Sports' Instagram post.

He also liked the video.

As you can imagine, Durant's how garnered a lot of reaction.

Instagram user schlepmunsch left this comment: "You comment on this cause you're a snake yourself KD?"

Was one of many users that liked the comment.
