In a research note with TF International Securities shared today with the Chinese media, Kuo predicted that Japan Display would gradually increase its proportion of OLED screen orders for the market. Apple Watch, starting with 15-20% of orders in 2019 and reaching 70-80% in 2021.
Kuo thinks that Apple will also gradually increase the proportion of its OLED display offering for LG and will use the Chinese manufacturer BOE as an additional supplier in order to diversify its supply chain.
Apple Watch The Series 5 models will likely be unveiled next month alongside a trio of new iPhones. That would not be surprising, since the series 1 to 4 models were all launched in September, but the specific rumors about the Series 5 models are actually relatively quiet, which is reassuring.
For example, Kuo previously stated that a "new ceramic case design" would be "added" to the Apple Watch range, but it has not explicitly mentioned the models of the 5 series. Reuters also reported that Japan Display would start providing OLED displays for the Apple Watch, but also did not specify the models in the 5 series.
Further, rumors suggest that Apple Watch Series 6 models will adopt MicroLED displays in 2020.
