NEW YORK – Mark your calendars. We finally know when the dreaded train L stop will begin.
The train will make its final connection between Manhattan and Brooklyn on Friday, April 26, 2019, which means the planned 15-month shutdown between Eighth and Bedford avenues will officially begin on Saturday, April 27, 2019, the MTA said Tuesday.
During the reconstruction of the tunnel, still severely damaged by the 2012 Sandy storm, train L will continue to operate in Brooklyn between Bedford Avenue Station, which will remain open during the tunnel closure, and the Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway Station.
Other alternative routes should be available on Sunday, April 21, 2019, "to allow guests to taste and acclimatize to new travel options".
Other routes opening on this day include five additional bus lines, a new M14 Select bus service on 14th Street and a ferry service.
An additional metro service on other lines, which will include more than 1,000 additional return flights, is scheduled to begin on April 28, 2019 – after the closure of L. Tunnel.
