French prosecutors have charged a 15-year-old with serious assault, after a video of the teenager pointing a fake gun on his teacher went around social media.

The incident took place Thursday in the suburbs of Paris Creteil and was then put online by one of the classmates of the teenager. The next day, the teacher filed a complaint with the police, following which the boy went to the police accompanied by his father.

In the video, we see the teenager standing above the teacher seated wielding what turned out to be an airgun.

"You've reported me absent. Mark me as present," he shouts as another student tries to plead his case with the teacher. French newspaper The Parisian reported that the boy, who was late for class, was angry after the teacher had already marked him as absent.

The teacher in the clip seems more exhausted than panicked and continues to work on his laptop while exchanging some inaudible remarks.

French lawmakers indignant following an incident involving a firearm

"The school is the cradle of the Republic and it is there that we learn to respect the Republic," Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said Sunday during a visit. at a police station in the east of Paris. He promised to "recover the square meter of the Republic per square meter" of elements without faith or law.

President Emmanuel Macron warned Saturday in a tweet that the threat of a teacher was "unacceptable" and that he had ordered his ministers to take "all necessary steps" to prevent such a incident will happen again.

In a joint statement Sunday, Castaner and Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer (top photo) announced that they would convene a summit meeting next week to discuss ways to end the school violence in low-income urban suburbs.
