Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and head coach Luke Walton are scheduled to meet on Friday to discuss how the forward will be used in the pre-season.

Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com provided the update after James suggested on Wednesday that he could prepare for his first season with the Lakers without any show appearance.

"I do not know," he says. "I do not need pre-season games [at this stage of my career] for preparing."

James played a preseason game for the Cleveland Cavaliers last year. He scored 17 points in 30 minutes against the Chicago Bulls. He played all 82 Cavs games during the regular season en route to a second place finish in the MVP vote behind James Harden of the Houston Rockets.

That said, there could be some extra pressure on the selection of 14 star games to appear on the show list, at least for home games.

A Lakers official told McMenamin that there had been an "unprecedented demand" for pre-season tickets after James joined the Lakers in the biggest move of the NBA off season.

Meanwhile, Walton said the new Lake Show look will focus on the "basics" during exhibition matches to create a slow progression to the contests that really matter.

"Even if it means we play three times for the whole match and we have to keep running them again and again, it's about getting where we want to be before the start of the season," he said. . "So, it's more important in the sense that we have to use these games as reps, but it's not more important if we win or lose the game."

The Lakers play their first of six pre-season games on Sunday night when they face the Denver Nuggets at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.

L.A. opens the regular season on October 18th at Portland Trail Blazers. As long as LeBron is healthy and ready for this game, his pre-season involvement is virtually irrelevant.
