After playing professionally in Lithuania, LaMelo Ball is back in basketball for high school and will join the Ohio Spire Institute.

"I'm excited to go back to school and join my class on the court for my final year of study," Ball told SLAM magazine. Justin Brantley, deputy director of the Spire Academy, told ESPN that head coach Jermaine Jackson had coached Brandon Ingram, who has been playing with Lonzo Ball on the Lakers over the past few summers. He added that this relationship had brought the two sides closer together.

Ball was ranked among the five-star prospects of the 2019 promotion, but had retired from Chino Hills High School (California) last October. He and his brother, LiAngelo, then signed with BC Vytautas in Lithuania.
The brothers returned to the United States last summer and played in the Junior Basketball Association, a league run by their father, LaVar.
LaMelo Ball will play for the Speyer High School team (they also have a preparatory team) alongside Rocket Watts and five-star Michigan star Isaiah Jackson.

Brantley told ESPN that Ball was not compensated and that he had never received payment for playing in Lithuania or in the JBA, which allowed him to play this season.
