Chances are the fantastic football owners Stefon Diggs, the Minnesota Vikings' receivers, will be prepared for a stressful Sunday morning on Day 9. the waiver thread was very real.
But late Saturday night / early Sunday morning, good and bad news. The bad news was that Adam Schefter of ESPN revealed Diggs should not play. The good news? You now have enough time to find a potential replacement.
The Vikings receivers have a strong showdown against the Detroit Lions. One of the names that has made waves at various times this season is Laquon Treadwell. The question is: should you try your luck with the former first round pick as a weeklong flyer in Fantasy?
Let's take a look at the situation and see if Treadwell is worth it. And if it does, I will evaluate which are the best leagues / situations to play it.
Do you have to start or sit Laquon Treadwell?
Treadwell is an interesting option for several reasons. Specifically, he saw 37 targets this year, which earned him 25 catches for 216 yards and one touchdown. He has also seen four or more targets each game, but one this season while getting more than three assists in each of the last six games. Treadwell's potential is there and, considering that Diggs has achieved double-digit goals in six of the last seven games, he could see a nice increase in workload.
Treadwell has played 74 and 63% of offensive shots in the last two weeks (by Football Outsiders). He is expected to take on the role of Diggs. One of the concerns could be the extra work for Aldrick Robinson, who already has strong relationships with the Cousins and has shown optimism in terms of limited playing time this season.
Regardless of Robinson's situation, Treadwell will experience a heightened workload in a duel with a Lions team capable of giving up big games. Over the season, they only allowed 68 receptions for opposing outsiders, but they racked up 1027 yards (15.1 yards per receiving) with nine touchdowns. Treadwell and Robinson are potentially strong, putting them to some degree.
I would not go crazy going out Treadwell, who had a very successful career in the NFL. But it's a great opportunity for him and a good match too. It seems reasonable to assume that the 23-year-old should see 6 to 8 targets and spend a productive day. I think this is a great option in leagues of 14 teams or more, in all formats of the 9th week, as well as a great option for fantastic football every day because of the price.
