HBO & # 39; s Last week tonight won the best series of variety talks at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday.
The series was against Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, The Late Late Show With James Corden and The late show with Stephen Colbert.
"All the shows every year, we transport our staff here and place them in the worst places in the building to send a mixed message," said John Oliver in his speech. "Thanks to our staff, we are incredibly proud of you."
Oliver then addressed the marriage proposal that took place on stage earlier in the kudocast. "On behalf of everyone in this room, I want to thank [Emmy-winning Oscars director] Glenn Weiss's fiancee for saying yes. It could have been a very different night, he joked.
Oliver thanked HBO "for its constant support" for the late night show. He added that the cable company still supports writers' ideas. "If we want to make a story about trade policy or buy Russell Crowe's jock strap," he said.
"I want to thank [executive producers] Liz Stanton and Tim Carvell, who are the backbone of the series, "said Oliver. My wife Kate, who is my personal backbone. I like you very much. "
He concluded the acceptance speech by thanking his children. "We love you very much," Oliver said. "My son, he's two and a half, he hates our show. Paw Patrol, and if our show is something, it's exactly the opposite of Paw patrol."
Victory continues The daily show with Jon Stewart School's winning streak in the category, which began in 2003. Stewart won the award 10 times in a row between 2003 and 2012. Colbert, who participated in The daily show as correspondent from 1997 to 2005, then won the award for The Colbert Report in 2013 and 2014. Stewart won the award the following year in 2015. Former Daily show Correspondent Oliver won the award in 2016 and 2017 for Last week tonight.
The 2018 Emmy Awards were organized by Saturday Night LiveColin Jost and Michael Che. The ceremony was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
