RENO, Nev. (AP) – Latest election campaign news in Nevada ahead of Tuesday's general election (local time):

The former mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani, is the last big name to have helped to strengthen the Nevada Republicans in the western state of the battlefield.

Giuliani has scheduled an appearance late Saturday afternoon at the Las Vegas office of GOP party representative Danny Tarkanian.

Tarkanian is in a close race with Democrat Susie Lee in the 3rd district, where incumbent Democratic Representative Jacky Rosen is trying to overthrow GOP Senator Dean Heller.

Lee hosted a roundtable on Saturday health care with former Maryland governor, Martin O'Malley, at a dinner in Las Vegas.

Democratic presidential nominee Steve Sisolak plans to travel to Reno on Sunday at a café with Mayor Hillary Schieve (SHE & Vee), followed by a luncheon with O & Malley at Sparks and an appearance at the Washo County Democratic Headquarters.


He runs against Republican Adam Laxalt to replace popular outgoing GOP governor Brian Sandoval.

Forty percent of Nevada's active voters have already voted before Tuesday's general election.

The state secretary's office released the final count of two weeks of advance voting on Saturday.

Democrats are leading the advance polls with 41% of the total voter turnout in all states, compared to 38% for Republicans. Independents, non-partisan parties and other parties accounted for 21%.

The secretary of state said that 88% of the advance votes had been cast in person during advance polls. About 11.6% were submitted to a postal vote and 0.4% sent by mail.

In Clark and Las Vegas counties, Democrats registered 34%, or 34%.

In Washoe County and Reno-Sparks, the Democrats held 40.5% and the GOP 39%.

Republicans have overtaken the Democrats in all other countries.

Steven Horsford, in the 4th district of southern Nevada, where incumbent Democrat Ruben Kihuen decided not to seek re-election in the face of allegations of sexual misconduct.


Democratic Representative Jacky Rosen gathers volunteers in Henderson to try to overthrow Heller. Democratic presidential candidate Steve Sisolak organized a series of events with union leaders in Las Vegas.
