LEICESTER, Massachusetts (AP) – Latest news regarding the opening of the first commercial marijuana stores on the US East Coast (all local times):

US representative Joe Kennedy said he had changed his point of view on marijuana and was now asking the federal government to legalize and regulate this drug.
In an opinion piece published on the opening day of the first two pottery shops in his country, the Massachusetts Democrat called Tuesday for the delisting of marijuana from the list of drugs regulated by federal law on controlled substances.
Kennedy writes that he has long been skeptical about the legalization of marijuana, fearing that the drug will lead to addiction, especially among teens.
Writing in STAT, a medical and medical publication based in Boston, Kennedy states that he also understood the benefits of legalization and that he is convinced that the federal prohibition has done little to protect the public health and safety.

The leading marijuana regulatory agency in Massachusetts considers the opening of the state's first recreational pottery stores as a "milestone".
Cannabis Control Commission Chairman Steven Hoffman noted on Tuesday that there were long queues in front of the Leicester (LEH & Stuu) and Northampton stores, but that the crowd seemed "organized". He congratulated the operators of the pottery workshops for having done a careful planning work.
None of the two stores has been reported in the immediate future. The products offered range from pre-rolled joints to cannabis-infused chocolate bars.
The stores are the first in the eastern United States. The pot is sold legally in six western states.
The commission decided on Tuesday to grant final licenses to two other retailers in Salem and Easthampton, but neither should open immediately.

More than two years after Massachusetts voters approved marijuana for recreational purposes for adults, there are finally places to buy it legally.
The first commercial pot stores in the state opened Tuesday in Leicester and Northampton. The shops are the first to operate on the east coast of the United States and there were long lines at both locations.
Items for sale will include various varieties of marijuana blossom, pre-rolled joints and edible products such as brownies and chocolate bars.
Cannabis is legally sold in six western states.
The deployment of legal pot sales has been slow in Massachusetts as regulators said they wanted to make sure everything went well without some of the supply problems faced by other states.
Several other stores could open in the coming months.
