Leading Professor Cornell, Food Researcher, Resigns for Misconduct

A professor at Cornell University whose dietary studies helped shape US nutritional choices was removed from all teaching and research positions after being found guilty of academic misconduct.

Brian Wansink, who has a doctorate in marketing and consumer behavior, immediately resigned but maintains that he has never committed fraud and claims that the problems cited by the university's investigation were only minor.

"The committee found that Professor Wansink had made academic mistakes in his research and research, including the misstatement of research data, problematic statistical techniques,

The next day, Wansink defended his job stating that there had been statistical errors and other problems, but that he had never intentionally made false statements. He says that he believes that all his findings will be supported by others.

Wansink helped update American food guidelines and his work was frequently featured in headlines, from Fox News to CNN.

A top medical journal removed six of his papers early in the week, with notices on all his other written work while the investigation continues.

Cornell announced that Wansink would spend the rest of his time at the Ivy League School participating in the survey on his previous work.
