Leah Remini says Tom Cruise is one of the "alleged abuses of Scientology"

Leah Remini is no stranger to the revelation of the Church of Scientology. She pushed her critics of religion further by criticizing actor Tom Cruise for his apparent "role" in assigning alleged punishments to fellow Scientologists.

Remini, 48, was raised as a Scientologist. The king of queens alum left the church in 2013. As part of her public condemnation of Scientology, she published her first memoir Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology in 2015. She then teamed up with A & E to launch Leah Remini: Scientology and sequelae, who enters season 3 on November 27th.

In an interview published Wednesday by the Daily Beast, Remini took a closer look at the power of Cruise within the church. She said that many people see Cruise as "an innocent victim" like many Scientologists. Yet Remini claimed that Cruise was "very aware of the abuses committed in Scientology" because "he was part of it".

Cruise joined Scientology in 1990 through the intermediary of his first wife, actress Mimi Rogers. Rogers, however, is no longer a member of Scientology. Cruise, on the other hand, has been a supporter of the church. His biological daughter, Suri Cruise, whom he had with his ex-wife Katie Holmes, is no longer a practicing member. His adopted children, Connor Cruise and Isabella Jane Cruise, whom he raised with Nicole Kidman, are still active Scientologists.
