An explosion destroyed almost a whole house in Lower Merion Sunday night, causing a resounding boom that was heard throughout the region.

Rescuers rushed to the house at 600 Dodds Lane in Gladwyne shortly after 8 pm.

The apparent gas explosion destroyed about 75% of the house, which had undergone major renovations, the Lower Merion police said.

The owners were inside their house of friends at the time of the explosion, but no injuries were reported, police said.

Peco also sent employees to the scene to help first responders and secure the area, the power company said. The additional gas leaks did not pose a threat to the public, said Peco.

Officials do not suspect foul play. The investigation remains in progress.
