Lewis Hamilton won a lucky victory in the Brazilian Grand Prix after Max Verstappen of Red Bull lost his lead in a collision with a late player.
Verstappen was about to win a superb victory when Esteban Ocon of Force India left his car inside the Red Bull Senna S and launched it into a spin.
The incident brought Verstappen back to second place and, although he returned to Hamilton, he could not catch it.
Verstappen recalled Ocon in the driver's weighing zone and pushed the Frenchman three times as he expressed his anger at what had happened.
Hamilton's victory helped Mercedes win the constructors' championship.
They never seemed to lose that as Ferrari's challenge faded, but victory was another problem.
What was Ocon doing?
Verstappen had been flying very well from the beginning. He quickly took second place in the 10th lap after successively passing Ferraris Ferraris then Mercedes Valtteri Bottas, before retaining the advantage of Hamilton about 1.7 seconds.
Hamilton stopped early for the tires on the 19th lap and went to the midfielders in a bid to go through, but Verstappen stayed out until lap 35.
His pace was so impressive on the used super-soft that he had almost done enough to join the group without losing his head.
In the end, he was 2.5 seconds behind Hamilton, was on his tail in the two laps and passed him on the 39th lap.
He looked for victory until the 44th lap, when Ocon, who not so long ago had been chasing new tires, caught up with the Red Bull and was trying to deflate.
Ocon skirted the outside of Verstappen until turn 1 and this meant that he was inside the turn to the right of turn 2 which immediately followed.
Verstappen's right-back was hanging on Ocon's left front as he turned in the corner, spinning and in the withdrawal zone.
Verstappen was furious. "What an idiot," he said on the radio.
Ocon claimed that Verstappen had not left him enough space, but he was sentenced to 10 seconds, the most severe penalty before disqualification.
"I came out of the box, the first round I stayed behind the second round of the team said that you can unlock if you want.
"I was side by side and I could not go away, I saw that he was turning around and we collided, what really surprises me is his behavior afterwards." We went to the scale, he started pushing me and wanted to hit me and stuff and it's not appropriate. "
Never give up
Verstappen was 5.7sec behind Hamilton when he left and he soon started to get closer to the leader.
The car was damaged and Red Bull told him that he had lost some support on the front of the side area, but he continued to come to Hamilton despite everything.
Meanwhile, Hamilton struggled with problems with his powertrain, which was abandoned, and used tires, Mercedes asking for 52 rounds of his midrange game, about their maximum limit.
Verstappen closed and closed but he did not have enough time and crossed the finish line with 1.5 seconds behind.
The Verstappen engineer said: "I do not know what to say, man." And the Dutchman turned the air on the radio saying, "I know what to say, I hope not to find him in the paddock."
In the green room before the podium, Hamilton told Verstappen that Ocon had the right to deflate. Verstappen agreed, but added: "But you can not crush yourself." Hamilton replied, "You had more to lose than him, he had nothing to lose."
Later, Verstappen told the media: "He has the right to undress, but you still have to be careful, he has always been an idiot."
In his post race interview, he said, "You do everything right, then you get out when he gets caught.
"The car was working fine but I do not know what to say, I'm happy with second place, but we should have won."
Ferrari fading
Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen was third, as the red cars were unable to compete despite what was seen as an advantageous strategy.
Raikkonen followed Bottas in the first stint as the Mercedes had tire problems in the first stint, but failed to get through before Bottas stopped on lap 18.
A longer first stint gave Raikkonen the advantage in the second stint. He surprised his teammate Sebastian Vettel, who was ordered to let him pass, but Raikkonen again found himself trapped behind Bottas.
After 10 laps, Raikkonen finally managed to pass, then Bottas was pressured by Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, before Mercedes ordered him to make a second stop on lap 59, with 12 to go.
Ricciardo took fourth place, in front of Bottas, with Vettel, who also made a second stop, a sixth in difficulty.
