Lil Wayne fans thought that they would finally hear Tha Carter V – only to see their hopes shattered again.

Over the past month, rumors of the much-anticipated album have been broadcast on the Internet, spurred by social media posts by celebrities such as Floyd Mayweather Jr. and James Harden. Yesterday (September 20), Lil Wayne's family stepped in, her daughter Reginae Carter teasing the album by posting a "V" image on Instagram.

The fans thought that the album was going to fall at midnight and waited. But when nothing came out …

Tha Carter V was originally announced in 2012 and is expected to be released in December 2014 as the final album of Lil Wayne's career. However, five days before the release, Tha Carter V was put on hold when Lil Wayne began expressing frustration with his label, Cash Money Records, and the co-founder of Cash Money Records, Birdman.

"To all my fans, I want to know that my album is not going and that it has not been released bekuz Baby [Birdman] & Cash Money Rec. refuse to release him, "he tweeted.

Then, a lawsuit was filed in January 2015. Lil Wayne sued Birdman and Cash Money Records for breach of contract and withholding of payment.

On June 7 this year, Lil Wayne and Cash Money Records reached an agreement. While the exact details are confidential, Lil Wayne would have received the rights of Tha Carter, which will go through Universal Records. After two decades, Lil Wayne and Cash Money Records are no longer officially affiliated.

Lil Wayne met Birdman at the age of eight and signed with the Birdman label three years later. Birdman was an influential force in Lil Wayne's professional and personal life, acting as a mentor and father figure.
