The startup announced that it had removed the affected scooters in Los Angeles, San Diego and the Lake Tahoe area, the three locations where they were operating.
"Immediately after learning of the defect, we worked with Segway Ninebot to create software to detect potentially affected batteries," said Lime. "We then worked independently to create even more comprehensive software to ensure that no potentially defective scooters remain outstanding."
The problem concerns 0.01% of its total fleet, according to the company. But his battery problems do not stop there.
Another version of his scooters "could also be vulnerable to battery failures, which we are currently investigating," he said.
The electric scooter industry has already had a year of ups and downs. The Ninebot Segway was not immediately available to comment late Tuesday on the battery issues reported by Lime.
