Lin-Manuel Miranda writes a love letter in New York in "Cheering for Me Now". The comforting song about the ratification of the constitution by New York, with the music of the famous composer John Kander (Cabaret, Chicago), is the penultimate version of Miranda in Hamildrops.
In the black and white video of "Cheering for Me Now", the Hamilton Creator appears in Hamilton garb on an empty stage. The classic Broadway-style song is built with radical orchestrations as sung by Miranda. "I came here without anything / like hundreds before me and millions behind me," he says. "You know you can find me in New York / Where everyone is different, but share the same island."
The visual focuses on inclusiveness and unity, interspersing clichés of people from all walks of life, the city, street scenes and the Statue of Liberty throughout the clip. While the sentiment is focused on the positive, Miranda also mindfully addresses the uncertainty that the country faces. "Today, it is my city / Tomorrow, who knows," he sings. "Today, we are a country / Let's see how it goes."
In December 2017, Miranda launched the Hamildrops series, which includes new Hamiltonrelated content. Since then, he has been publishing new Hamildrops documents each month, culminating in a final payment in December.
