Lions sign WR free agents Bruce Ellington and RB Zach Zenner

Allen Park, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed WR free agents Bruce Ellington and RB Zach Zenner and renounced RB Ameer Abdullah. The terms of the contract have not been disclosed.

In addition, Lions also announced the signing of a cooperation agreement. Horace Richardson to the practice team and released DE Alex Barrett from the practice team.

Ellington arrives in Detroit after spending the last two seasons (2017-18) with the Houston Texans. He has played three games (one start) this season and has recorded eight catches, 92 receiving yards and one touchdown. Before Houston, he spent time (2014-2016) with the San Francisco 49ers, in 26 games during his stint at the club. He first entered the NFL with the 49ers in 2014 as the fourth selection (106th overall) in preliminary selection in South Carolina. The total number of Ellington Quarries includes 56 receptions, 637 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions, plus 10 attempts in the race, 52 rushing yards and one touchdown in 40 career games (seven starts).

Zenner returns to Detroit after spending the off-season and pre-season with the club before spending week 1 on the reserve / injury list. He had initially signed with the Lions as an unregistered free agent in the state of South Dakota in 2015 and has participated in 28 career games (five starts) with 420 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Richardson returns to the Lions after recently spending the preseason with the Minnesota Vikings. He made his NFL debut in 2017 with the Vikings as an unregistered Southern Methodist free agent and had spent this season on the club's practice team.
