LIRR cancels some Monday morning trains after train derailment without passenger

Long Island Rail Road partially canceled or canceled eight trains peak on Monday morning as a result of a weekend derailment.

A LIRR train was crossing the West Side Yard, a park west of Manhattan, Saturday night when two of the center's cars derailed, an LIRR spokesman said Sunday.

LIRR is currently working to repair the damage to the track caused by the derailment, the spokesman said.

The following trains were canceled during the Monday morning rush hour during the work, according to a service notice posted by the agency:

• The Freeport train at 06:57, due from Penn Station at 7am: 40 hours Passengers can take the train from Babylon to Penn at 6:32 instead of Freeport at 6:56
• The 7:29 train from Freeport, due to Penn Station at 8:11. Passengers can take the 07:10 Babylonian train to Penn, which departs from Freeport at 7:38 am
• The 6:08 Hempstead train, due to Penn Station at 7:52. Passengers can take the 7:12 train. from Hempstead to Penn, who will stop in Jamaica.
• The 6:17 train from Port Washington, due to Penn Station at 7:03 am. Passengers can take the morning 6:27 train from Port Washington to Penn.
• The Great Neck 8:26 train, due to Penn Station at 8:59 am Passengers can take the 8:40 Great Neck train to Penn.
• The 8:10 am train from Far Rockaway to Penn Station at 9:05 am Passengers can take the 8:19 am Far Rockaway train to Penn.

The following trains will end in Jamaica:

No customers were on board during the derailment, but an employee on board had back pain, said the LIRR spokesman.

The derailment is under investigation.
