LONG ISLAND – The Long Island Railroad has resumed service after a damaged signaling system caused delays and cancellations at several branches on Thursday and Friday.

The PSEG-LI downline at Valley Stream caused "significant damage" to the LIRR signaling system at several locations until Friday morning, the railway announced.

One of the commuters told PIX11 that she had been waiting in the cold for about an hour, saying that she had to get to work in the morning.

An additional passenger train from Babylon was put into service at 06:52, making all stops at the Rockville Center, Jamaica and calling locally in Brooklyn before arriving at the Atlantic Terminal at 7:59.

Service in West Hempstead, Babylon, Long Beach and Far Rockaway branches has been restored and is functioning normally.

PSEG-LI said it was investigating the cause of the fall of the line.
