Listen to Kurt Vile's Bassackwards, the new LP "Bottle It In" – Rolling Stone

Kurt Vile will release a new solo album, It bottles, October 12 via Matador Records. He previewed the 13-track LP with Bassackwards, an exploration of nearly 10 minutes of meditative acoustic fingerpicking, inverted psychedelic guitars and existential lyrics.

"I was on the beach, but I was thinking about the bay," sings the indie-rocker on a simple folk riff and a regular rhythm section. "I arrived in the bay, but at that time I was far / I was on the ground but looking directly to the sun / But the sun was lying and I was not there. I could not find another one. "

"Bassackwards" is the second Vile extract It bottles, following the single "Loading Zones" published last month. The album – which follows her collaborative album in 2017 with Courtney Barnett, Lotta Sea Lice, and solo disc 2015, I think I'm going to fall – Presents Lucius (chorus on "Come Again"), Kim Gordon on Sonic Youth ("acoustic guitar distortion" on "Mutinies"), Cass McCombs and Stella Mozgawa on Warpaint (both on "Bottle It In" of 11 minutes)).

Saved Vile It bottles in various cities in the United States, working with several producers, including Rob Schnapf, Shawn Everett, Peter Katis and Rob Laakso. In a release on the project, Vile spoke of the eclectic – and often dark – influences that inspired the LP.

"For a moment, I was terrified of flying, so I listened to country songs that obsessed me," he said. "I'd have George Jones in my ears. Or, I would read something about country music. Or, I would start writing songs in this flash to be scared, to be swallowed by life. I'm up there on a plane drinking wine because, like everyone else, I'm afraid of dying. And I wrote 'Hysteria' up there.

Vile also extended its world tour to the top announced on October 12 in Hamburg, Germany. The North American race begins November 25 in Boston, Massachusetts, and ends March 17 in Richmond, Virginia, followed by a series of international dates in April.
