The Brewers revealed three hours before the National League tie-down at Wrigley Field what the Cubs had planned for Sunday – right-hander Jhoulys Chacin will leave.
Daniel Murphy and Anthony Rizzo combined for four home runs in 40 bats against Chacin. Murphy will take the lead and Rizzo fourth.
Chacin (15-8, 3.56) will face left-handed Jose Quintana (13-11, 4.09), who will make his seventh start against the Brewers this season.
Quintana is 4-1 with an ERA of 2.17 against the Brewers this year. Quintana will be the first thrower of the Cubs to face an opponent seven times in the same season since Don Cardwell faced the Giants seven times in 1961, according to historian Ed Hartig.
Quintana will take eighth place, a sign that manager Joe Maddon could pull at the first sign of trouble or go further in attack mid-set.
The winner will move to the NL Division Series, which begins Thursday. The loser will host the winner of the other tiebreaker between the Rockies and the Dodgers on Tuesday in NL's wild card game.
