Cook County jury deciding Officer Jason Van Dyke's fate for shooting Laquan McDonald is set to continue its deliberations Friday morning.
The eight-woman, four-man jury discussed evidence for the five hours Thursday in its first day of deliberations.
Earlier Thursday, Judges Vincent Gaughan, Judge Closing the Case. The jury had previously heard 10 days of testimony.
Before recessing for the night after 5 p.m. Thursday, the jury sent a note asking for the transcripts of the testimony of Joseph Walsh, Van Dyke's partner of the night of the shooting and Van Dyke's account from the witness stand. Walsh is awaiting trial on charges of exaggerated the threat posed by McDonalds, but the jury has not been told about the nature of the charges.
Gaughan will also consider Friday morning whether he will take Van Dyke in custody for showing up late for late Thursday afternoon after Gaughan called the attorneys to his courtroom because of the jury.
Van Dyke told the judge that he had to go home because of an attack on one of his two daughters. Gaughan said he expected Van Dyke to offer some evidence to support the alleged threat.
