Loki, the Scarlet Witch, More MCU Hero to Play in Disney's Streaming Broadcasts

Marvel Studios develops limited series for Disney live-action streaming service MCU characters like Scarlet Witch and Loki. Disney is looking to expand its domination of pop culture with the launch of its own streaming service, and will not help its major content. Jon Favreau develops the first live-action Star wars show, but the other big Disney brand, Marvel, is also embarking on the content boom.

Marvel's original content was confirmed as being on the way to service for a while, but what it would be exactly was not clear. Now, fans can rest assured that some major and familiar MCU characters will help you get started.

Variety reports Marvel Studios is developing several limited series for the upcoming Disney streaming service. Two of the projects under development are Scarlet Witch and Loki. Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston are expected to resume their roles as MCUs. Additional projects are also underway, but the other characters involved are not known. Marvel and Disney would seek to produce these episodes six to eight episodes per piece and grant them budgets that would compete with the movies.

This is a major development for Marvel's television presence, as these limited editions will be closely followed by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. He will produce all the shows and should be very involved in the whole. It is also for this reason that famous characters and actors will come back, absolutely linking these series to the greater continuity of the MCU – while the ABC and Netflix broadcasts are barely connected. However, do not expect a Iron Man or Captain America series because these shows are designed to highlight the characters who did not get their own movies.

The decision to go with Loki and Scarlet Witch as two of the first fallout makes sense. Hiddleston is one of the MCU's most beloved actors, and that's partly why Loki went from a real villain at first to a quasi-hero. This does not confirm that his death in Avengers: Infinity War was wrong however, as his or one of the other shows could be prequel. Loki is thousands of years after all, so this limited series is only a chance to bring Hiddleston back into his role and further explore his character.

Scarlet Witch is another great choice, especially if her show was to follow Avengers 4. She now masters her powers (perhaps mutants) and could thus live very crazy adventures. But, they could also bring her back to her days of work under Captain America and Black Widow. Whatever their career, these two series have a lot of potential. There is currently no word on when they will go into production, but if Disney wants at least one of them ready for the launch of the streaming service by the end of 2019, then more news should arrive soon.
