In a recent interview with ComicsExplained, Venom Stars Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed are asked about their favorite scene in the upcoming cartoon movie, and Hardy's answer is rather revealing:
There are things that are not in this movie. There are like 30 to 40 minutes of scenes that are not in this film. Scenes of crazy puppets. Scenes of black comedy. You know what I mean? They never did it.
Hardy seems to strongly imply that his favorite scenes do not appear at all in the film, probably because they appeal to censorship and they get this disappointing evaluation of the movie by PG-13. This is a brutally honest answer, and movie stars usually do not give when they promote their latest movie. Unless, of course, you are Jason Statham, expressing his disappointment at the lack of blood in The mega (not this lack of injured gore at the box office).
But Rice Ahmed quickly changed the answer by suggesting that Hardy's favorite scenes were cut off because they were not good, an attempt to block Hardy's honesty, which made Hardy joke:
Is The sound of silence does it play on my face? "Hello darkness, my old friend." Thank you my brother.
Referencing Ben Affleck's famous shot reaction after Batman V Superman it's revealed to be an incoherent mess only made Hardy's point clear; The venom could have been removed in the editing room.
Everyone seems to be ready to be disappointed with this movie, including Tom Hardy, and you will not think that Sony would want to get into the critically acclaimed movie. Logan tell a violent and ripe story about an anti-hero who tears people's heads. But we are going to have the child-friendly version, like watching Wolverine penetrate bloodlessly into the ribcage of his enemies in the old man. X Men Ugh movies.
But that will not be the case, according to Venom producer Avi Arad, who tells ComicBook.com:
There is no reason to do violence. Define what venom is like violence. It is not. He is the mortal protector, which is very different. We want to be really faithful to comics. Today, in CGI and in other areas, we can make Venom bite you. But we do not need to show the head from side to side as "it's good actually." It does not matter. The important thing is that you have finally understood, is it a bad guy? Yeah.
Find? I hope we are all on the same page now. A "deadly protector" ripping his head, carnivorous, with giant shark teeth, is not defined by violence, agree? Good. Now, let's finish with this movie, so we can move on to Jared Leto Morbius the living vampire, the vampire of the obscure comic defined by the fact that he is "technically" not a vampire. Even though it's totally.
And even, according to Avi Arad, who does not seem to know when to stop talking, Leto will display "a similar level of intensity, charisma and devotion to the character" as his … Joker. Of Suicide team.
I think this cinematic universe may have already collapsed.
