Philip Rivers had two touchdown passes, Melvin Gordon had 165 yards and the Los Angeles Chargers won their sixth consecutive game, 20-6 against the struggling Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Rivers rebounded after a start of the quarter without giving a pass. He gave Keenan Allen an 11-yard pass in the second quarter to give the Chargers (7-2) the lead for good and a 66-yard pass to Gordon on the opener of the second half.

Los Angeles then faced the Raiders (1-8), who lost five consecutive games by at least 14 points under coach Jon Gruden and were outclassed 75-9 in the last nine quarters over what is quickly became a lost season.

Oakland started quickly by controlling the ball for 23 of the 29 games in the first quarter and outshooting the Chargers by 129 yards. Los Angeles did not allow until shortly after Melvin Ingram forced a fumble against a Derek Carr bag early in the second quarter, with the Raiders looking to add to a 3-0 lead.

Rivers regained his pace after that, leading the Chargers to a goal and then a 91-yard pass at the end of the half that ended with the shot to Allen in the front corner of the end zone.

Gordon, who had 93 rushing yards and 72 rushing yards, then put the game aside when he grabbed a pass from Rivers, broke a tackle from Gareon Conley, stopped Reggie Nelson and competed for the long score. .

LOPSIDED START

The Raiders missed opportunities to take a bigger lead while outscoring the Chargers 135-6 in the first quarter. Dwayne Harris was stopped by Derwin James on a shovel pass in the fourth and final goal of the 1 to deny the best chance in Oakland. Los Angeles then scored 10 points in the second quarter with an Ingram striptease, preventing Oakland from shooting and scoring a goal for the Chargers. Rivers hits Allen for the final point with 24 seconds left in the half.

PRETEND

Raunch rookie punter Johnny Townsend made a fake kick in the opening game for a 42-yard run. It was longer than his average of 41.9 yards on arrival. Townsend then added their longest start of the season with 57 yards in the second quarter. Townsend is the third player since the merger in 1970, with at least 40 yards and at least 50 points in the same game, joining Reggie Hodges of Cleveland, who made it to Cleveland in 2010, and Jeff Hayes to Washington in 1983.

SMOKED GAME

The air quality for the match was at an unhealthy level due to forest fires in Butte County, about 150 miles to the north. The air quality index was 159 at kick-off, which is in the unhealthy zone, and smoke could be felt throughout the stadium. The NFL had been monitoring the situation, but the IQA had never approached the 200, the level where the match should have been moved.

INJURY

LB Chargers Denzel Perryman left the game with a knee injury in the first match. Raiders WR Martavis Bryant (knee) left the game in the third quarter.
