Los Angeles police report the possibility of a hostage taking at Trader Joe's

A police-sued suspect crashed his vehicle, went out and ran into the store on Hyperion Avenue in the Silver Lake neighborhood, Mike Lopez told CNN

. Police were still trying to determine if there were hostages inside the store

Margaret Stewart, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said that a 20-year-old patient was transferred to a hospital in fair condition. Stewart said: [TRADUCTION] "We are ready to support ourselves, but we are not able to confirm how many patients can be inside," Stewart said.

The incident began around 3:30 pm local time (6:30 pm ET) and prompted a major police intervention.

An aerial video taken from a helicopter showed an armored vehicle parked outside the entrance gates of the store, armed agents carrying shields and a man pulling out his hands in the # 39; air.

The video also shows police carrying a person who appeared to be injured, as well as people coming out of a shop window and descending a rope ladder.

Lopez said that he did not know if shots had been fired by the police or suspect
