Lowe's was not the only retailer to suffer from a problem on Friday. Earlier in the day, J. Crew said that he too had technical problems.

The high sales and dollars spent the day after Thanksgiving make it one of the most important buying days in the year and often test the resources of retailer technology.

Amazon AMZN earlier this year was having problems during his shopping vacation, Amazon Prime Day. Macy's M had a credit card problem last year on Black Friday.

Meanwhile, Lowe's restructured its business by recruiting its new CEO, Marvin Ellison, who began operations in July.

Lowe's announced earlier this month its intention to end its retail operations in Mexico. He also plans to leave Alacrity Renovation Services and Iris Smart Home.

Lowe's previously announced it would close its 99 Orchard Supply Hardware stores by the end of the year and close 20 Lowe's stores in the United States and 31 in Canada. As of November 2, Lowe's operated 2,133 home improvement and home improvement stores in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
