Luann and Dorinda's Speech on Alcoholism on "Real New York Housewives" Was a Major Failure

All Franchises Real Housewives are more fun when women are having fun, because it's stimulating and refreshing. On Real Housewives of New York there is none of it these days. All friendships are so fractured right now and everyone has so many problems, that it's hard to know where to look. In Cartagena, Colombia, some women tried to repair broken relationships in vain. In fact, Luann's and Dorinda's speech on alcoholism on RHONY not only caused more dramas that were there before they started, but it did not happen. was also problematic AF.

Luann and Dorinda are friends, and they were friends well before the arrival of Dorinda. It's important because it's not as if their relationship was just for the cameras. The fact that they knew each other before was the reason why it is so disheartening to see both women smirking and getting straight to the jugular, especially when it comes to such sensitive issues.

Here's how it all went: The women are all having dinner on their nightmarish Colombian holidays when Bethenny and Carole – who are also bickering – decide to take their arguments to the table. Everyone is encouraged not to listen, but … go. J & # 39; listen. Half of the table clashes, half tries to listen, and Luann tells Dorinda that she's screaming and that she's a little aggressive. Welp, after a few drinks, Dorinda is ready to leave, and she tells Luann to go drinking and driving and getting arrested, to call a criminal, and to make her ashamed to know what his old friend did.

Both women are shocked and hurt by innuendo about each other's character. Luann essentially referred to Dorinda as an alcoholic, and Dorinda told Luann what she really thought of this arrest in December. Both were judging and saying things about what really needs to be discussed in a positive way. Because they have each made good points.

If this conversation had been made with three fewer cocktails, it would have been very different. RHONY explored the idea that Dorinda already has an alcohol problem this season. Remember when Bethenny took her to Puerto Rico and that she was drunk the night before and that she was extremely rude to Bethenny's charitable partners? Bethenny had what appeared to be a real and deep convo with her the next day.

Here is however the thing: As much as drinking is addressed to create the drama on the show, it is often also a line of punch. RHONY also showed that Dorinda was becoming increasingly drunk and screaming to everyone (it can be said for most women), and they often frame her as a joke, giving her subtitles. But there have been serious IRL consequences that have come from drinking too much. At least for Luann, who has agreed to an agreement for the arrest of December 2017, but who would be in rehab this summer and will not attend the meeting.

But it's not as if someone should be stopped or "out" as having some kind of unhealthy relationship to drink for the show to perhaps step back from the use alcohol as a point of intrigue. Alcoholism and addiction are serious problems that some viewers might have to face and the show could handle these moments in a slightly more responsible way.

If everyone seriously worried about Dorinda's alcohol consumption, they should do it together when everyone would be sober, as Bethenny had done in Porto Rico. And Dorinda could have just listened. It's easy to feel attacked, but when a conversation is framed as "I'm worried about you and I've noticed a few things," the person in question is probably less likely to call you a criminal.

Amidst yachts and vacations, Real Housewives of New York had the opportunity to talk seriously about alcohol and drug abuse, but she finally fell flat.
