Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and 2018 Balloon Inflation Event: What You Need to Know

Upper West Side, Manhattan (WABC) –

The 92nd edition of this iconic holiday event marks the beginning of the season with its giant character balloons, floats, fanfares, whimsical shows, fanciful show bands, the biggest stars of music and the only and unique Santa Claus.

Since November 1924, the Macy Parade has become synonymous with the beginning of the holiday season.

For the 92nd edition, the program will include 16 balloons of giant characters; 43 fantasy balloons, heritage balloons, balloons, balloons and balloons; 26 floats; 1,200 cheerleaders and dancers; more than 1000 clowns; and 12 fanfares.

More than 3.5 million spectators are moving on the streets to attend the event, and millions more will watch TV and streaming devices.

Icy temperatures are expected for this year 's parade, with a maximum forecast of 27, making it the coldest Thanksgiving holiday for over a century.

Parade staff and city officials will closely monitor not only the forecast, but also the weather and wind speeds along the parade route.

Four new tanks will debut, including Elf Pets from The Elf on the Shelf, Kinder's (Ashley Tisdale) Fantasy Chocolate Factory, Teenage Mutant Rise of the Teenage Mutant and Nickelodeon's Ninja Turtles (Jack & Jack) and Kalahari Resorts Splashing Safari Adventure and Conventions (Ella Mai).

We saw a preview of these new tanks earlier this month.

The iconic parade balloons feature some of the most beloved characters in the world. The famous warrior Saiyan Goku of "Dragon Ball Super: Broly" will join the hot air balloon training this year.

Spectators can witness the inflation of the balloon which starts at 13:00. Wednesday at the 77th and 81st streets between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. The event continues until 8:00 pm

The only public entrance is at 73rd and Columbus Avenue. You can download a printable map of the balloon inflation area here.
