The New England Patriots have done a great job by turning away from their next game against Matt Patricia's Detroit Lions by trading against Josh Gordon, is not it?
Playing against the former Patriots defensive coordinator became a secondary scenario this week after Gordon's arrival in town. Patriot coach Bill Belichick did not show much interest in talking about his former assistant this week, saying, "Yes, I talked a lot about Matt. I mean, he's a smart guy who works hard, passion for football, all those things. I mean, we keep talking about him. None of this has changed. "
Do not take it as if Belichick did not respect or love Patricia. It seemed that Belichick simply wanted to make the week more important for the players than for the head coaches.
Let's go into this week's mailbag:
Which comparison players were acquired in the same capital as Gordon?
– @jeff_yyz
The Patriots traded a fifth round pick for Gordon and a seventh round pick.
The Patriots traded fifth-round picks for:
Cassius Marsh Defensive End
Running back Mike Gillislee
Linebacker Barkevious Mingo
Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth
Grand receiver Greg Lewis and a seventh round pick
Large Cordarrelle Patterson catcher and a sixth round pick
James O'Shaughnessy tight and a sixth-round pick
Catcher Keshawn Martin and a sixth-round pick
Defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga and a sixth round pick
Oh man What a brutal list, huh? It would be easy enough for Gordon to become the best buy on this list. Gabriel was probably the most productive player the Patriots have earned for a fifth round pick, and his name is synonymous with a season in which quarterback Tom Brady has no wide receiver.
It's obvious that the Patriots do not value fifth-round picks. They only recruited 15 players in the fifth round in Belichick's 19 projects.
Here are the players they have acquired in packages with picks in the fourth round: tight end Dwayne Allen, cornerback Eric Rowe, referee Martellus Bennett, cornerback Aqib Talib, receiver Deion Branch, receiver Randy Moss and defensive tackle Ted Washington.
They are better players.
The most overpaid / underpaid players on the patriots?
– @IrshadZahidi
The most underpaid Patriots player is undoubtedly defensive end Trey Flowers. He is the best defensive player in the Patriots and has hit just over $ 2 million this season. Among the players who have not yet signed their rookie contract, it's probably the center David Andrews.
I do not like the idea of calling an overpaid player, but Dwayne Allen has the ninth highest bombardment of the Patriots in 2018, and he is not a starter.
#MailDoug. Do you see a possibility that Gordon and Edelman are identical to Amendola and Edelman? Or is there the possibility that they can be better?
– @kckittie13
It's almost hard to talk about Gordon because the sky is the limit. Gordon was incredible in 2013. He played two games over 230 yards. It's amazing.
And Gordon was great in five games last season.
The rise of Gordon and Julian Edelman is significantly higher than that of Danny Amendola and Edelman. But the chances that Gordon lives his full potential are slim.
Josh Gordon plays Sunday!
– @Esko_baar
I think that's the plan. Even using it as a decoy would be useful to distract Rob Gronkowski.
The Patriots should certainly see how Gordon adapts to the Patriots' culture before doing anything radical, but he is talented enough that I can consider simplifying the blame for him.
You do not want a player of Gordon's caliber to be on the sideline as he can not take the offensive. If Gordon is on the right track, you use it. You play this guy on receivers like Chris Hogan and Phillip Dorsett. I do not know if this would be possible as part of the Patriotes offensive, but perhaps even simplify Gordon's role.
Why did the crows get another small fine for another offense, while the patriots were stripped of their choice and fined $ 1 million for something that turned out to be wrong. Are we fans of patriots who see this clearly? #maildoug
– @ BradleyPowell04
I can see why fans of the Patriots do not think it's right. That being said, an offense during a pre-season match or a volunteer practice is considerably less serious than a playoff game.
I think the Deflategate would have been taken much less seriously if it happened to a team other than the Patriots.
Re: Cyrus Jones, can a team sign a player from another practice team at any time? #MailDoug
–EricCthebutler
A team can not sign a player outside of their training team within five days of the match. If there is a week off, a team can not sign a player of the opposing team within nine days of the match.
Other than that, yes.
Let's go quickly to the fire.
#MailDoug A word on why Derek Rivers has not played yet, or when we could see it? Thank you.
– @Sevrin_L
I think there's a good chance we'll see him this week because the flowers will probably be affected by a concussion. If Rivers plays well against the Lions, which proves that he can take the lead and bring pressure, he could overtake Keionta Davis or Deatrich Wise on the Patriots depth chart.
What's the worst for fast food, hot pizza or Captain Crunch?
– @ pmyt1115
Hot pizza, definitely. A burnt mouth will ruin your weekend.
Do you feel like pirates who voluntarily go for vanilla because they know that they will not win the game?
– @EricJsaint
I thought it was a bit odd that the Patriots ran only one game of their second round on Sunday. I will say it.
If Brady and Belichick are divorcing and who has custody of Edelman?
#maildoug
– @CB_ReadinTweets
Are you kidding? Brady, certainly.
How do you maintain your sanity when talking to people who do not use basic logic? #MailDoug
– @MikalCopeland
Ha, you think I'm maintaining my sanity.
What are your thoughts on Third Eye Blind? Love or Extremely Love? #mailDoug #DougBendoug
– @ELeBoeuf
They are fine. I like the hits. They remind me to be in sixth grade.
I think the 90s alt-rock is an underrated genre – Gin Blossoms, Wallflowers, Fastball, Sister Hazel, Del Amitri, Bush.
Do you think Corey Coleman is entering the fold later in the season while he is more comfortable with the playbook? #MailDoug
– @LxrdKareem
I imagine not, but I like to have it signed to the team.
If Coleman spends the entire season on the training team, he has time to learn the offense, and the Patriots will probably sign him a contract after the season. This would give him all the training camp to learn the system.
I answered Lucien for the record.
Why do you think that so few WRs entering the league in recent years have reached the number in the 80s? The scales have strongly rocked to the numbers of 10s. #MailDoug
– @ TeamCrazyMatt
Keyshawn Johnson made numbers within 10 seconds.
Sign Eric Reid.
– @ByrieDrewIrving
OK fine.
#MailDoug why do not the Pats want Patterson to return punts and kicks? if you can return one, you can return the other right?
– @mattNOTofficial
Incorrect. I'll let my friend Nora Princiotti from the Boston Globe explain.
How is Olivia the Kyed (get cus kyed is your last name and sounds like "kid") ??? #MailDoug
– @ patsfan48029160
The best 1 year I know. She really applauds these days.
TMZ reports that Colin Kaepernicks' lawyer said the patriots were interested in him. Is it a serious interest or a fair tactic to distract Josh Gordon's attention?
– @LumberjackFelix
I think Kaepernick's lawyer just said that Meek Mill is writing a song about Kaepernick and that he's friends with Robert Kraft.
I am all for, however. Embrace the chaos. Kaepernick should have a job.
I live in Buffalo and I finally come to Gillette to see a #Patriots game at home on Oct. 4 against the Colts. Where are the good places to eat when you're there? #MailDoug
– @ JHeintz_57
If you're staying near Foxboro, you should go to Town Spa Pizza in Stoughton. It is also in southeastern Massachusetts.
Now that you're dad, will the woman take you with the family this fall? #MailDoug
– @Kid_From_Quincy
I like apple picking. This puts you in the mood of autumn.
How are you today?
– @chelseacatlette
I do it well! Just sitting on my couch, watching "Thursday night football" and emptying the mailbag.
Doug on a scale of 1 to 10, you are a cool guy of 10/10, have a nice day #MailDoug
–BigBaIIerBen
Thank you Ben. On a ladder from little baller to big baller, you're a big baller.
In the CFL, after a successful field goal, they do not kick off. The opponent just takes the ball from the touch-up spot. Would this be a viable option in the NFL if they want to make the NFL safer?
– @PatsFanMatt
Are you trying to make Matt Chatham crazy?
When was the last time the patriots had a choice 6? It's like forever. I think we get significantly less than the other teams per season (although I do not know exactly the numbers). Why do you think it's like that with the pats?
– @ZekyMurra
It was really, a very long time ago. It was week 16 of the 2013 season. Tavon Wilson brought back an intercept of Tyrod Taylor for a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens.
Why are fans of patriots still crazy?
– @JP_Shanahan
When you win five Super Bowls in 17 years, all that lacks perfection seems maddening.
(Remember the "Monster Ballads" infomercials?)
Wait, I've just started listening to this song. What is the ridiculous voice of this guy?
Where is Josh Gordon's locker?
– @DeeepThreat
Oh, did not you hear?
But you never answer them. Ok, with that said. It's amusing to see how all this "noise" starts up again at the beginning of the regular season. Patriots must IGNORE NOISE !! They usually be very good at it. What happened ???
– @ goodnow123
Sorry, it's been a long time. I will have to answer this one later.
