A growing body of scientific evidence suggests that lobsters are able to feel pain when they are boiled.

An American restaurant uses marijuana to soothe lobsters before killing them.

The legendary Lobster Pound of Charlotte, a Maine restaurant, says the process is more humane because it reduces pain before death.

Lobsters are often cooked by falling into a saucepan of boiling water, considered cruel by some. It is more and more obvious that crustaceans feel the pain.

Restaurant patrons can choose whether or not they want lobster under seductive marijuana.

A growing body of scientific evidence suggests that not only lobsters but also other invertebrates, such as crayfish and crabs, can feel the pain.

In January, Switzerland decided that lobsters should be stunned before being boiled.

Charlotte Gill, owner of Charlotte's legendary lobster book, says that eating lobster under sedation will not make customers high and that marijuana use will improve the quality of meat.

"If we want to take a life, we have a responsibility to do it as humanly as possible," Gill told local Mount Desert Islander newspaper. "The difference it makes in the meat itself is amazing."

Marijuana is legal in Maine and Mrs. Gill is licensed to grow it and provide it for medical purposes.

The laws on marijuana in the United States vary from one state to the other. Nine states and Washington DC have legalized the drug.
