Police arrested a kidnapping suspect in New York and canceled an Amber alert after a girl was found safe.

Staten Island resident George Torres, 19, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and endangering a child during his court appearance in Washington County Court on Friday.

Shortly after his arrest, police said 12-year-old Malayla M. Johnson was found safe. She was last seen in New York near the Staten Island ferry, but it is not known where she was found.

"My baby is fine. I've never been more grateful in my life, "wrote Malaya's father, Jay Johnson, in an article on Facebook.

Malaysia disappeared after school Wednesday in Hudson Falls, about 220 km north of New York.

"The child was taken away under circumstances that make the police believe that she is at risk of serious injury or even death," officials said.

Evidence suggests that Malaya was seen entering a new red Ford Mustang with two Hispanic men.

Malaya's family was perhaps aware of these men, but the police regarded the circumstances as suspicious and called them "possible kidnapping".

On Wednesday night, investigators found Malaya's cell phone in Sloatsburg on the border with New Jersey, Washington Post sheriff Jeff Murphy told Post-Star.

Malaysia was sighted around noon on Staten Island near the St. George ferry terminal.

Thursday night, the investigators have located the Mustang in New York, but we do not know exactly where.

The police detained the two Hispanic men, but did not find Malaysia.

"We are trying to determine who these two people are," said Murphy. "We do not know what the circumstances are or if she is familiar with these people."

In a Facebook call, Malaya's father asked the public for his safe return.

"Please, help me find my daughter." She calls herself malaya johnson. She is 12 years old, "he writes, adding a picture of both together.
