According to the authorities, an 84-year-old man was killed in a serious accident.

The accident happened at 11:30 pm on Wednesday on I-495 in Taunton.

The Massachusetts State Police stated that the Taunton Fire Department had reacted to the accident near Exit 9, near the Norton City boundary, and had found a car on fire and two other damaged vehicles.

An initial investigation shows that a 1984 Toyota Camry driven by Arnold Reda, 84, from Foxborough was traveling on I-495 North when he turned around and started to roll in the lane. south direction.

Reda crashed into a 2016 Mercedes GL450 driven by a 56-year-old man who had three passengers in the car with him. Inside the car were a 42-year-old woman and two boys aged 10 and 12 years old.

The adults were transported to Rhode Island Hospital and the children to Hasbro Children's Hospital, all with life-threatening injuries.

After hitting the Mercedes, the Camry hit a 2003 Lincoln Towncar driven by a 58-year-old Weymouth woman with a passenger on board. The driver of the Lincoln was not injured, while the passenger was transported to the Sturdy Memorial Hospital with injuries not putting his life in danger.

Reda was declared dead on the scene.

In addition to the Massachusetts State Police and the Taunton Fire Department, Norton Fire Services, MassDOT, Taunton Police, Easton Fire and Brewster Ambulance Service have also reacted on site.

The northbound lanes were completely closed between exits 9 and 10 for several hours, but the roadway has since reopened.
