PARIS – Pursued by police vehicles, a man crushed Monday a stolen car against security barriers in two airports in Lyon, then crashed through two glass doors before being arrested.

The drama car chase was captured on amateur video. The car struck a lump, took off and landed in a cloud of dust at the Saint-Exupery International Airport in Lyon. The driver jumped while the vehicle was still driving and ran on foot, pursued by a police van.

Other police vehicles and foot policemen then tried to escape him until one of them managed to catch the suspect and catch him on the ground, showed the video.

The motives of the man were unknown and nothing was excluded, said regional government press secretary Christelle Monteagudo.

Another official with direct knowledge of the investigation stated that there was no immediate evidence of a terrorist motive. The official requested anonymity because he was not allowed to publicly discuss the investigation.

The 31-year-old man, suspected of being French, was only known to the police for traffic offenses in 2007 and 2009, he said. The vehicle that he used as a ram was stolen, added the manager.

The man was spotted for the first time on the A43 motorway linking Lyon to the Alps. Police on the highway and a police helicopter carried out a lawsuit, the regional government said in a statement. Police fired during the pursuit, the official said.

The man then crashed into the Lyon Bron airport security gates for business flights, before heading to the nearby Saint-Exupery airport, where the flights were quickly suspended.

There, the man hit other security barriers. Still pursued by the police, he crashed through two glass doors of Terminal 1 of the airport to plunge into the tracks.

All air traffic at the airport has been stopped. There were no casualties.

The Lyon prosecutor's office is investigating possible charges of attempted murder against the suspect.
