Man booted for attending costume party in KKK hood, robe

A man showed up to a Halloween costume party at a Mississippi bar wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood and robe – but quickly got the boot, witnesses and the establishment’s owner said.

The man, who was not identified, attended a costume party on Saturday at Mutt & BC’s Bar & Grill in Picayune, where someone spotted his white supremacist garb and posted a photo to social media.

“And they say racism is dead,” Chance Delaney wrote on Facebook. “DISGUSTING.”

Delaney told the Clarion Ledger that he didn’t take the photo, but shared it on Facebook after someone else who asked not to be identified sent it to him.

“Legit trash man,” Delaney wrote in a subsequent comment. “The bar needs to be thrown away for even letting his racist a– walk in there, honestly.”

The incident took place just hours after an anti-Semitic gunman allegedly killed 11 worshipers with an AR-15-style assault rifle at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh’s predominately Jewish Squirrel Hill section.

Robert Bowers, 46, appeared in court Monday after what’s believed to be the deadliest attack on Jews in US history. Federal prosecutors have said they intend to seek approval to pursue the death penalty against Bowers if he is convicted on 29 federal charges, including 11 counts of murder.

The owner of the bar said the white customer who strolled into his establishment wearing the KKK garb — while waving Mississippi’s state flag — was asked to disrobe and leave. He has since been barred from returning, owner Bryan Carroll told the Clarion Ledger.

Several black patrons were also at the bar when the hooded man arrived, Carroll said.

“We do not tolerate or condone racism at any level of our business, customers or staff,” he told the newspaper. “Everyone is welcome and we do have all walks of life and all races that patronize our place.”

The offending customer was not a regular at the bar, Carroll said.

The city’s mayor also chimed in, saying he was pleased that Carroll did the right thing.

“The city of Picayune does not support any type of racist or derogatory actions, period, whether it’s true to life or a costume party,” Mayor Ed Pinero told the newspaper. “It’s just unacceptable behavior.”
