New Zealand is wild.
Just ask this kiwi kayaker, Kyle Mulinder, who was in the "wrong place at the wrong time," to be hit directly in the face by an octopus brandished by a seal.
Yes, you read correctly: a seal had an octopus in its mouth in the middle of a royal battle of sea creatures. The seal emerged from the water that circulated around the octopus, which ended up hitting the unsuspecting kayaker in the face while he was out in the open.
"We were just sitting in the middle of the ocean and this huge male seal appeared with an octopus and had been beating it for ages," Mulinder told Yahoo News about the freak encounter with nature. Then came the big moment. "It turned out that mate, what happened?" In fact, Mulinder was kayaking with a team of content creators for GoPro's test hardware.
Mulinder seems to be doing well now, as is the octopus, which is apparently stuck in its kayak and out of seal range after the fight.
The attack occurred near Kaikoura, a town in the south island of New Zealand, and adds to the island nation's mysticism as a truly unique place. And now, we also know that seals and octopuses do not hear.
Here is a GIF of the moment of slap.
