Hilton Cox told WECT-TV that he was at home when he heard gunshots and that he went to the scene. Cox said he found the police vehicle with flashing blue lights. He saw the soldier lying on the road.
"I immediately called 911 and started talking to him, checking his vital data, he had a pulse, he was breathing, and he still had a heartbeat and was out of breath." said Cox at the station. up. "

Van driver Raheem Davis, 20, has fled, authorities said. He was arrested without incident, reported WECT-TV. Officials said Davis stole the van, which Conner was not aware of when approaching the vehicle.
Accused of first degree murder, Davis was incarcerated in Columbus County Jail without bail.
Conner leaves behind his wife, Miranda, and their two children aged 5 and 11, reported Raleigh News & Observer.
