A 45-year-old man was arrested after threatening an 11-year-old child as a result of a loss in the Fortnite video game.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, the child reported receiving threatening messages and voice messages online on his Xbox from someone he had beaten in "Fortnite."

Michael Aliperti, of Huntington, NY, is accused of threatening to shoot at the 11-year-old, possibly at school.

Aliperti faces a charge of aggravated second degree harassment and a charge of having acted in such a way as to injure a child, police said.

Stuart Cameron, head of the Suffolk County Police Department, said that Aliperti had been introduced to the 11 year old by other children playing the game, and that they were playing at Fortnite for several months.

"Parents must be warned," Cameron said at a press conference. "You have no idea if you do not know exactly the other end of the game that people are playing with."

Since its launch a little over a year ago, "Fortnite" has become a real hit for Epic Games video game publisher. The game's signature mode is Battle Royale, where 100 players descend on an island and fight until he remains a player standing.
