Man shot in New Jersey shopping mall brimming with Black Friday customers

A man was shot in the wrist at a New Jersey mall cluttered with Black Friday patrons and the police evacuated the building while she was trying to locate the gunman.

Police were informed that shots had been fired at the Mills at the Jersey Gardens shopping mall in Elizabeth, New Jersey, around 8 pm. Friday, said Lt. Todd Kelly of the Elizabeth Police Department.

"We have not yet been able to apprehend the suspect," said Kelly, adding that the wounded would not cooperate with the police.

Black Friday is one of the busiest shopping days in the United States and 25,000 people have crossed the mall since it opened Thursday at 10 am, said Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage.

"The mall has been evacuated and all the buyers have gone out.Nobody is in danger yet," tweeted Bollwage.

Shopper Junior Vallejo said he heard a shot while he was at the mall with his family. He posted on Twitter images of people looking in a window that were locked.

"Everyone is being evacuated and some are still too scared to leave the stores," said Vallejo, of the mall. "Everyone panics and cries."

Loes Zaitsev posted a video of police cars in front of the mall as crowds of people fled the building with children, shopping bags.
